There is no such thing as an ideal relationship. It's how two people deal with the imperfections of a relationship that makes it ideal.
Are you looking for a partner? Do you struggle to meet or talk to new people? Does it seem like you are always meeting the wrong type of people and end up getting hurt? The Relationship Group’s mission is to provide a nurturing, supportive environment for men and women to build healthy bonds. Relationship group members will use psycho-educational handouts, role plays, peer feedback and goal-oriented homework to enhance social skills and confidence. The first relationship we will explore is the one you have with yourself. It is the one relationship in which we have 100% control. We will focus on your strengths and use them as a foundation to your future goals. Self-care goals will be established collaboratively and reviewed periodically throughout the group process. Relationship group members will be able to define healthy and unhealthy relationship characteristics. Short and long term relationship goals will be set. Communication skills will be in taught in a group setting. Each Relationship group member will participate in role plays and give supportive feedback to their peers. You will learn the following communications skills: reflective listening, staying present in the moment, conversational skills, assertiveness and conflict management. After each communication lesson, Relationship group members will be instructed to practice the skills outside the group. Evidenced-based treatments for social skills have shown that the most effective way of improving social skills is by practicing them. Through time and practice, they will get easier and confidence will grow. The next stage of the Relationship group is to build effective problem-solving skills. No two people are alike. No one has the same opinions and thus conflicts will arise in relationships. Through psycho-educational handouts and interactive role plays, Relationship Group members will learn the following skills: assertively making requests, agreeing to disagree, compromise/negotiation and taking responsibility for your actions. The last stage of the Relationship group is to learn how to nurture a more intimate relationship with your partner. Relationship group members will leave the group feeling they have the tools to build supportive, nurturing relationships.
