Family counseling is a venue to give each member a voice and the tools necessary to help resolve conflict. No one family member is to blame and working collaboratively as a system is the most efficient treatment style to resolve family issues. All family members are encouraged to participate, but the counseling dynamics can change from all the members being present to as few as two, depending on the situation. Each party has an opportunity to express their needs in a safe forum and to hear each other’s opinions. Family and individual goals will be established. We will practice communication and problem solving skills in session that will give the family the necessary tools to collaboratively resolve their issue/s. A weekly family meeting at home will be encouraged to work on the homework together and to practice using the tools taught in session. Goals will be assessed periodically and successes will be acknowledged regularly. Family therapy decreases conflicts, and through healthy communication problems are resolved.
